Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
It's been well documented on here that last summer's signings were a disaster and hopefully the likes of Tore, Calleri, Arbeloa & Nordveidt will never be seen in a West Ham shirt again but is there some hope that Fernandes, Ayew, Masuaku and maybe even Feghouli will use this season as a learning curve and turn out to be good signings for the club in the future?

I don't think Fernandes was expected to play as manygames this season.injuries and squad imbalance meant he got a good go. Ayew got injured first gam out for months and took a long time to get any form.

Masuaku just brought in to cover creswell, turned out better as cress hasn't been great since injury. Arthur had considerable injuries themselves.

Ferghouli looked decent the last couple of games, not a first team starter for me when Antonio is back.

They could all have have a future here if they can stay fit. So 4 work out 6 didn't ?

I agree with Justin P.

What we really need to do is improve the first 11 with some genuine quality wtih those lot as squad players.

During the commentary for the Spurs game, Martin Tyler mentioned that Bilic says that he has to find a place in the team for Fernandes next season as he's been so impressed.

Think he's gonna be very good. Hopefully Fletcher will play more now that the amount was agreed too.

I don't get the clamour for Fletchers inclusion, really don't understand what others see in him.

Fletcher is OUR player and in the short time he has on the pitch does more than Calairi (who is a loan we have no option to buy- thank fuck) does in a whole game.

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
If he plays more next season, I reckon we wouldn't have done our job properly in the window.

He's had a fair amount of playing time and hasn't scored a league goal.

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
Lanzini obviously the pick. A potential superstar.

I'm excited by the younger players - Fernandes, Quina, Fletcher, Masuaku, Martinez. Certainly think the first four should have featured more this season. Given the lack of progress with the academy intake, these have filled the gap and given us some hope imo.

Disappointed with Nordtveit and Feghouli - both clearly have enough ability. Feghouli unlucky with injury I suppose. Nordtveit's confidence seemed to collapse playing right back - you'd expect a player of his experience to cope with that a bit better though. I don't really fully understand why either didn't work out better, because I still rate them as players.

Ayew - he's okay, a decent player. Haven't changed my view on him for years. Flatters to deceive a bit, good not great. Obviously a terrible signing at the price, but the money's spent now.

Zaza - disaster. Tore - disaster. Calleri - disaster. Arbeloa - disaster. Fonte - disaster. Snodgrass - disaster.

In the lottery of transfer deals I suppose I'd say it's closer to an average haul than it might have seemed. Four of the disasters are either gone or going, so no real long-term damage. I've no idea what they were thinking in January, that really was pathetic. As I've said before on here, I think the Summer signings were basically a scapegoat this season - the real culprits imo seem to be underperforming players from last year's squad and the coaches. None of the new signings forced last year's players to play like strangers.

Given Calleri's performance, I'm pretty sure we'll have an option to buy...

Surely they won't want to take him back

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
I can't help thinking that maybe Calleri is simply being played out of position.

Like Antonio at Right Back, or when we had Ian Pearce up front.

Maybe Calleri is actually a GK who just fancied a change?

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
Most of this season's signings will probably play better next season. They walked into a squad that was out of form, possibly unfit for much of the season, and lacking in organisation and confidence. With that in mind, it's no surprise that they didn't look as good for us as they did with their previous teams, where they were settled and had an understanding with the players around them.

Off-seasons are quite often a circuit-breaker for a team performing badly, and I think it'll give the new signings time to settle in without the pressure of staving off relegation.

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
I think the signings enlarged the squad which has really helped with the injuries, but they did not make the team better.

For me Masuaku and Fonte have both been good signings that we should keep.

Then we have these guys that did enough to be kept: Ayew, Snodgrass, Fernandes, Nordtveit and Ferghouli

Fletcher did not do enough, but we should keep him as he is young, did not get much chance and may come good.

These guys should go: Calleri, Tore and Arbeloa + Zaza ho has gone.

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
Fernandes, Masuaku and Ayew will be good players for us to have

Nordveit i'd give a chance in pre season......there is a player in there we just have to work out how best to use him

All the others i'd offload

The signings in the academy seem to have paid off though, Martinez, Holland and Kemp all look like they could have a future

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
Fernandes has just turned 21 and I think will be a player.
Arthur has struggled with injury but is definitely Premier league quality who hopefully will improve with his first season out of the way.
Feghouli has shown enough in patches to give encouragement.

I'm not convinced by Nordviedt and just don't think Ayew suits us. If as rumoured Marseille are interested I'd try and get as much of the £20m back.
I'd move Snodgrass on and I'd probably not have Fonte in our best X1.
As for the loans. Lets not speak of them again. Complete waste of time and money.

Agree with most... but Fegouli ??
i won't be deceived,
im sure he will ever be what we need.....

Yes a great game v. Burnley.. but he was playing
for his life/Future ... which will only make it
easier to offload in the summer for decent $$$

Imho ..... His application is not there consistently

Re: Will this season's signings turn out to be good after all?
I see enough encouragement that there is something there.
Of course if we were offered silly money and could replace with better then so be it.
That's in comparison to some of the others that I don't ever see working ie Snodgrass

Replace Feghouli with someone better?

Let's try not to limit our options too much.
